At least six dead after gunman opens fire in Netherlands shopping centre

At least six people have been shot dead after a gunman entered a shopping centre in the town of Alphen aan den Rijn, in the Netherlands.
Witnesses said machine gun fire could be heard inside the Ridderhof mall when the incident took place earlier today.
In addition to the fatalities, sixteen people are reported to have been injured. The gunman is believed to be among the dead, having killed himself.
Local officials say they are unable to confirm the number of dead and injured. In a statement, the local government said that "the mall has been cleared and a wide area around it is cordoned off."
